What does a Wellness Coach do?
A wellness coach helps their clients to align their wellbeing mind, body and soul. My clients range from those experiencing anxiety or depression, and in need of an outlet, to others feeling lost – be it in their jobs, relationships or health.
When a client has a one-on-one session with me, we sit down with a cup of tea and I basically ask a heap of questions – what are their struggles? What have they tried that hasn’t worked? Where are they stuck? It is a collaborative approach of questionnaires and surveys, worksheets and just general discussion to uncover what inspires them, motivates them and lights them up.
Goals are always set at the end of each session for my clients to work on over the coming weeks, and I hold them to account by giving them a call each week to check in on how they are doing.
It is all about accountability and inspiration. I love helping my clients live their best lives.
What does Wellness mean to you?
Wellness to me is when your mind, body and soul are in complete alignment. It isn’t enough to have a 6-pack or go to the gym every day. #Fitspo is such a huge trend right now, but not many people are talking about mental health and the mind. You can look the healthiest physically but can be seriously unhealthy inside, and I learned that in my own journey. Wellness is embracing and understanding your mental health, it includes sufficient sleep and rest, it is about self-love, and doing what inspires you and lights you up. Of course exercise and eating well are so important too, but they are only one piece of a big puzzle!
What do you find most rewarding about your job and why?
I love feeling like I am making a positive difference in my client’s lives. For a long time in my former life I felt without a purpose – there was a hole that wasn’t filled. I have ALWAYS loved to help others and feel so grateful to be able to inspire others to live their best lives. When a client lands their dream job, or has a breakthrough from one of our sessions – that just makes me light up! I am smiling just thinking about it. They really inspire me.
We all know juggling work, family and your health and fitness can be a real challenge. What is your #1 tip for maintaining a balanced lifestyle/optimum wellness?
Such a good question. It comes down to making time for yourself – fill your cup up first. If you are not bursting with love and energy and health yourself – then eventually, you will burnout. Take 5 minutes a day to rest, recharge and do something you really enjoy; be it meditation, a nap, journaling, a bath, a walk or just a cup of tea on the couch. Fill up your cup first, before giving to others.
